what’s the key to being a great dad?
what’s the key to being a great dad?

Hi!
I remember this line from the early seasons of Modern Family: When Jay Pritchett was asked what the key to being a great dad was, he said, “When all is said and done, 90% of being a dad is just showing up.”
As you may have noticed, fatherhood is such a journey! It’s also wild to think that a few years from now, that baby you’re holding will be able to have full conversations with you!
Which is why it’s crucial to start building on that relationship.
The first thing you can do is make time regularly to spend quality time with your child—emphasis on “quality.” If you’re a working dad or juggling many other responsibilities, I understand how challenging this can be. But when you do, make sure you are focused and free from distractions. Spend it by doing something you enjoy, like walking or reading together. This is how traditions start, and it could be something you and your child can cherish years from now.
It’s also good to learn what your child enjoys and get involved. These early stages of exploring their interests are crucial, and as a parent, you can be a big part of nurturing that aspect. Be supportive and show that you are paying attention- it will make them feel valued and understood.
One important thing to note is that consistency matters a lot. Showing up and being there for your child is a big role you have to play. Be intentional; you’ll see how this foundation can build a stronger, lifelong connection with your child.
Because at the end of the day, they’ll remember you as someone who shows up and listens.
Regards,
Alex
